Former community organizer Barack Obama and his campaign have had a lot of fun sneering at former mayor Sarah Palin’s lack of experience. But that’s quite an odd line of attack when you consider the following: Obama served as a senator from Illinois for 664 days before signaled on October 22, 2006 that he would run for president; Sarah Palin served as the governor of Alaska for 634 days she joined the McCain ticket on August 29, 2008. By Obama’s own admission, running for president kept him so preoccupied he did not adequately perform his duties as Senator. “I became Chairman of this committee at the beginning of this campaign, at the beginning of 2007. So it is true that we haven’t had oversight hearings on Afghanistan,” he said during a February 27 Democratic debate, in response to Hillary Clinton’s attacks.
