HOUSTON (AP) — A worker in Houston has been hospitalized after a circular blade became detached from a power saw and became impaled in his chest.

Houston fire spokesman Kenyatta Parker says firefighters were called Monday morning about a man hurt while working atop a building. He says the unidentified man was using a saw that construction workers often use to cut through metal or concrete.

He was transported to a hospital with at least part of the blade still embedded in his chest. Parker says the man was conscious but his condition was not known.

The man was working on a building near The Galleria, a popular shopping center.

Parker says such a blade can become dislodged if it isn’t tightly secured while cutting a hard material.
