First lady Melania Trump commended the rescue of 12 boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave near the Thailand-Myanmar border Tuesday, calling the efforts of the rescue team “amazing” and “heroic.”
“Wonderful to hear all 12 boys & their coach are out of the cave in #Thailand. What an amazing & heroic global effort! Wishing them all a speedy recovery,” Trump tweeted while traveling to Brussels with the president, who will attending a NATO summit this week.

A team of Thai Navy SEALs and foreign rescue divers brought out the final four boys and their coach from the cave Tuesday, after the soccer team had been trapped deep in the labyrinth for two weeks.
The boys, ages 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old coach entered the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system on June 23 and became trapped when heavy rains flooded the site. Divers located the group on July 2 and were able to send them food and supplies.
Eight boys were brought out by diving teams over the past two days, amid worries that decreasing oxygen levels and heavy rains would make the rescue efforts increasingly dangerous.
A former Thai Navy SEAL died Friday while placing compressed-air tanks along the rescue route when he ran out of oxygen himself.
