‘Don’t back down’: Tulsi Gabbard tells Trump he has her full support in terminating Section 230

President Trump has Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s full support in terminating Section 230.

“@realDonaldTrump I fully support you on this. Please don’t back down. The freedom and future of our country is at stake,” Gabbard tweeted Thursday.

The tweet came in response to Trump’s writing, “Section 230, which is a liability shielding gift from the U.S. to ‘Big Tech’ (the only companies in America that have it – corporate welfare!), is a serious threat to our National Security & Election Integrity. Our Country can never be safe & secure if we allow it to stand.”

“Therefore, if the very dangerous & unfair Section 230 is not completely terminated as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), I will be forced to unequivocally VETO the Bill when sent to the very beautiful Resolute desk. Take back America NOW. Thank you!” he continued.

Trump and his allies have railed against Big Tech censorship, saying platforms such as Twitter and Facebook censor conservative voices and views. Since the election, Trump’s criticisms of technology firms have increased as Twitter and Facebook repeatedly flag his posts concerning election fraud.

On Tuesday, Trump said the National Defense Authorization Act, a yearly bill that funds military expenditures, “must” include language terminating Section 230, which provides liability protections to internet publishers.

“Looks like certain Republican Senators are getting cold feet with respect to the termination of Big Tech’s Section 230, a National Security and Election Integrity MUST. For years, all talk, no action. Termination must be put in Defense Bill!!!” he tweeted.

Some Republicans have shown they want to pass the NDAA without language concerning the repeal of Section 230, including Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe.

“230 has nothing to do with the military,” said the Senate Armed Services Committee chairman. “I agree with his sentiments … but you can’t do it in this bill. That’s not a part of the bill.”
