Now you see it, now you don’t

Beltway drivers looking for signs to the National Harbor will have to wait a few years longer.

Workers on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge project recently covered over an exit sign on the Outer Loop that pointed drivers to the massive convention, hotel, residential and retail complex that’s rising on the Prince George’s side of the Potomac River.

And with good reason. The exit ramp has yet to be built — along with most of the rest of the $2 billion project. The first guests at the Harbor’s Gaylord National hotel and convention center are due to arrive in 2008. Other portions of the project will be completed in the following years. The development has been in the works since 1997 and will eventually have several thousand hotel rooms, more than 1 million square feet of retail space and 2,500 residential units.
