President Trump’s legal has submitted a counteroffer to special counsel Robert Mueller, outlining terms for an interview with the special counsel as part of the ongoing Russia investigation.
Although Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani did not disclose what terms were included in the counteroffer, he said “that there is an area where we could agree, if they agree.”
“It is a good faith attempt to reach an agreement,” Giuliani said, per CNN.
Giuliani confirmed to the Washington Examiner on Wednesday that the counteroffer had been submitted.
Mueller is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin. He also has expanded his investigation to look at possible obstruction of justice after Trump fired then-FBI Director James Comey.
Giuliani said last month that Trump’s legal team had attempted to convince Mueller to narrow the scope of questioning in a potential interview on obstruction of justice. But he told CNN Wednesday that the legal team would possibly consider questions about obstruction of justice, provided they aren’t “perjury traps.”

Trump said in January he was “looking forward” to being interviewed by Mueller.
“I’m looking forward to it, actually,” Trump told reporters. He also said he would be willing to speak with Mueller under oath.
But then-White House lawyer Ty Cobb backpedaled, and clarified that Trump was in a rush and meant only that he was willing to meet with Mueller.
Mueller notified Trump’s legal team earlier this year that Trump is not a criminal target in his investigation, but still remains a subject of the probe, according to the Washington Post.
Trump has routinely condemned the investigation as a “witch hunt.”
