Metro hasn’t set a date for new exit procedures, SmarTrip price drop

Metro spokeswoman Angela Gates said her agency had originally planned to lower the SmarTrip card price — from $5 to $2.50 — and implement new gate exiting procedures on Aug. 29.

But new software must be installed to allow SmarTrip cardholders to add money to their cards using existing “Exitfare” machines, and that software installation is taking longer than anticipated.

“Since that [August 29] date has changed once already, we don’t want to give another date in case it ends up being incorrect,” Gates said.

Metro has announced the changes will come this fall, but Gates said she could not provide any more information.
