The parents of an infant are refusing a life-saving surgery for their baby due to a fear that blood used during the procedure would be from vaccinated donors.
The four-month-old from New Zealand needs open-heart surgery to treat severe pulmonary valve stenosis, according to the NZ Herald. However, the parents have shared they are concerned about going forward with the surgery without the requirement that any blood used would be from donors who had not received the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We don’t want blood that is tainted by vaccination,” the father reportedly told anti-vaccine campaigner Liz Gunn. “That’s the end of the deal — we are fine with anything else these doctors want to do.”
New Zealand’s health agency is seeking to attain guardianship of the baby by taking the parents to court.
The parents’ lawyer Sue Grey said the case is unusual in that the parents are not simply refusing medical care, but are seeking a better treatment than what is currently being offered.
“Because they label my clients as conspiracy theorists, [their position] is that anything my clients say can be ignored,” Grey told the court during an administrative hearing Tuesday.

Around 100 people gathered outside the courthouse to show their support for the parents’ right to choose medical treatment for their child.
An urgent hearing has been scheduled for next Tuesday.
