ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Several roads and highways have been closed by flooding and four highway department workers have been hurt by lightning as severe thunderstorms rolled through eastern New York, bringing torrential downpours and high winds.

In Albany County, flooding closed Route 20 in both directions between Fuller Station Road and Route 158 at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday. In Schenectady County, a section of Interstate 890 eastbound was closed by flooding for an hour.

In Sullivan County, some local roads were closed and water 3 feet deep forced evacuation of Main Street in Jeffersonville, near the Pennsylvania line. Public Safety Commissioner Richard Martinkovic says at least 5 inches of rain had fallen by 3 p.m.

In Rotterdam, four highway workers were treated after the truck they were working beside was hit by lightning.
