WATCH: Social media slams Kim Kardashian’s ‘tone deaf’ business advice

Social media railed against reality TV star Kim Kardashian over her business advice to women published in a Variety interview.

“I have the best advice for women in business,” Kardashian said in a video Wednesday. “Get your f****** ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.”

The clip came from an on-camera interview with three of the Kardashian sisters — Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe — as well as their mother, Kris. They are in the midst of advertising a Hulu docu-series from Hulu on their lives.

When Kim Kardashian offers the advice, Kourtney Kardashian can be heard out of frame, adding, “That’s so true.”

“You have to surround yourself with people that want to work. Have a good work environment where everyone loves what they do because you have one life,” Kim Kardashian went on. “No toxic work environments, and show up and do the work.”

Kim Kardashian’s late father, Robert, was a high-profile attorney who became a household name for his role in defending O.J. Simpson during his 1995 murder trial. Before the family earned their own reality show, his daughter was already well known for appearing in a leaked sex tape.

Journalist Astrid Martinez and thousands of others commented on Variety’s Instagram post. The vast majority of the comments appeared to be negative.

“Also being born rich really helps,” Martinez wrote.

Model Chloe Lloyd attempted to come to the celebrity’s defense.

“I think she’s talking about elitist/Hollywood types that are already rich and won’t work?” Lloyd commented on Instagram. “Which shows how much she isn’t understanding her extreme privilege. Many people work extremely hard but don’t have the back bone of a Beverly Hills upbringing to give them a leg up to fame and fortune.”

Caroline Hirons, founder of skincare company Skin Rocks, bashed Variety for even posting the clip.

“Really? This, from the billionaire family of unpaid internships, after two years of a pandemic, in the worst cost of living crisis we’ve experienced in years,” Hirons commented. “Who’s more tone deaf here? Them for saying it? Or you for posting it? Do better.”

Attorney Nyadol Nyuon replied to Kim Kardashian’s advice with a quote from writer George Monbiot: “If wealth was the inevitable result of hard work and enterprise, every woman in Africa would be a millionaire.”
