Lightning and flooding continued to plague Montgomery County officials on Monday, who responded to a handful of home fires and emergency calls for rescue from rising floodwaters.
Meanwhile, in Prince George’s County, more than 43 adults and 23 children who were evacuated from 15 homes in Hyattsville around 3 a.m. Monday were allowed to return after floodwaters receded. The homes, which were located along Rittenhouse and Sheridan streets, are situated near the Northwest Branch tributary of the Anacostia River, said Prince George’s Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady.
The residents spent the night in a temporary Red Cross shelter set up at Chillum Elementary School.
It is unclear whether anyone was evacuated from homes in Montgomery County.
Fire and rescue officials did not respond to several phone calls Monday. County Police had no reports of storm-related deaths or injuries.
A flash-flood warning remained in effect into the evening for Montgomery County residents.
