President Trump on Monday offered words of encouragement for the Americans affected by Hurricane Florence, saying, “We will never, ever leave your side.”
“These are incredible people that are going there a lot right now. We will do whatever it takes to keep the American people safe,” Trump said during an event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. “To every family who has lost a loved one in these really devastating hurricanes and storms, all of America grieves with you. Our hands are folded in prayer and outstretched with love. We will never, ever leave your side.”
Trump said nearly 20,000 federal and military personnel have been deployed to support the response efforts to the storm along the Southeastern coast.
Hurricane Florence slammed into the Carolinas late last week. It left hundreds of thousands of people without power and drenched North Carolina with record-setting rainfall.
According to reports, at least 24 people have died from the storm and its immediate aftermath.
The president vowed his administration will do “whatever it takes to keep the American people safe.”
