Dashcam footage emerges of Rep. Madison Cawthorn getting speeding ticket

Dashcam footage of Rep. Madison Cawthorn receiving a speeding ticket has come to light after news of his traffic violations emerged early last month amid several controversies.

The Queen City News obtained the footage on Friday of a state trooper pulling over the 26-year-old congressman in his home state of North Carolina last October. The outlet previously published video of another speeding violation in January.

During the traffic stop, the first of three over several months, Cawthorn was pulled over for going nearly 90 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 40 in Buncombe County. He did not have his license with him, and he appeared surprised when the officer informed him that the 2009 Dodge Challenger he was driving was registered to his father, according to the audio.

Cawthorn was issued a court date for Jan. 4, and he asked the officer if the ticket was something he “could just go in and pay?”

FRESH OFF MCCARTHY TONGUE-LASHING, CAWTHORN SAYS HE’LL RALLY WITH TRUMP NEXT WEEK

He received another speeding citation in January in Polk County, North Carolina, and was charged with driving under a revoked license when he was pulled over again on March 3.

Traffic violations are just a few of the controversies the freshman congressman has been embroiled in during recent weeks. He was criticized for calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “thug” and got a tongue-lashing from GOP leadership for claiming on a podcast that he was invited to orgies and witnessed cocaine use in Congress. Other North Carolina Republicans have grown frustrated with Cawthorn’s propensity for the limelight, complaining that “his act is wearing thin.”
