Caps Second Period Update

Caps 1, Maple Leafs 1

Caps look like a team that played last night. Offensive push just wasn’t there in the second period. But that period was really about Semyon Varlamov. You can say the Leafs got a lucky bounce on their goal by Nik Hagman. But they could have had three or four more, including Hagman moments after he scored his eighth of the season. Washington leaving its young goalie out to dry with odd-man rushes left and right. Toronto has outshot Washington 28-20 – but it was 17-10 in that period. Varlamov has 27 saves already. Only one power play and that went to Caps, who are now 0-for-3 on the night.
