President Trump will visit U.S. Central Command headquarters for a briefing with Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford early next week, the White House said Friday.
The president will be joined by National Security Adviser Mike Flynn for the visit to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.
“While at MacDill, the president will receive command briefings from both CENTCOM and SOCOM, have lunch with the enlisted troops, and have an all-hands address to personnel,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters Friday, referring to U.S. Special Operations Command.
While headquartered in Florida, Central Command runs military operations in the Middle East, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
The visit will occur just one week after Trump witnessed the first military death under his watch, which occurred during a clandestine raid at an al Qaeda facility in Yemen.
