Hospital executives will meet Wednesday in Baltimore to discuss how to make their institutions more environmentally friendly.

Representatives from more than 40 Maryland hospitals are expected for the daylong conference at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Organizers say the hospital officials represent more than half of Maryland’s hospitals.

Topics to be discussed include reducing and recycling waste, promoting green initiatives, creating green buildings, sustainable foods, nurses as agents of change, and hazardous materials management.

Organizers say green initiatives are not only good for patients, health care workers, and the community, but also for hospitals’ bottom lines.
