‘He can sleep well at night’: Trump hints at Roger Stone pardon

A recent tweet from President Trump has some wondering if his associate Roger Stone may receive a presidential pardon.

On Thursday morning, Trump shared a tweet from Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk that said, “Roger Stone will serve more time in prison than 99% of these rioters destroying America. All because he supports Donald Trump. This isn’t justice.”

Kirk asked his followers to retweet the post if they want to see “a full pardon of Roger Stone.” Trump retweeted the post and hinted that Stone may be receiving some good news in the future.

“Roger was a victim of a corrupt and illegal Witch Hunt, one which will go down as the greatest political crime in history,” he wrote. “He can sleep well at night!”

Stone was one of several of Trump’s associates to have crimes uncovered by the investigation conducted by Robert Mueller. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison after being found guilty of obstructing a congressional investigation, witness intimidation, and lying to the House Intelligence Committee while it was investigating Trump’s campaign and possible collusion with Russia.

The self-described “dirty trickster” is set to begin his prison sentence no later than June 30. It is not yet clear when Trump would issue his pardon if he plans to do so.

In a separate tweet on Thursday morning, the president said that Mueller should never have been appointed as special counsel to investigate his campaign.

“Mueller should have never been appointed, although he did prove that I must be the most honest man in America!” Trump wrote.
