Sen. Marco Rubio called out the “incredible hypocrisy” of members of the media who praised former President Barack Obama for meeting with Cuba’s Raul Castro, yet criticized President Trump for meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
“Presidents meeting with [Kim] exposed incredible hypocrisy of many in media,” the Florida Republican said on Twitter hours after Trump held a historic summit with Kim in Singapore. “When Obama did these things,he was described as enlightened. When Trump does it he is reckless & foolish. 1 yr ago they attacked Trump for leading us towards war,now attack for being too quick for peace.”

“I too have concerns about how all this with #NorthKorea will turn out. But I don’t recall all the ‘experts’ criticizing Obama when he met with a brutal dictator in #Cuba who also oversaw a police state & also killed & jailed his opponents. #DoubleStandard,” said Rubio, whose parents came from Cuba.

Rubio added that the U.S. should be skeptical of any deal that does not guarantee a complete end to their nuclear weapons program, not just a limit on future production. The penalty for breaking that promise, he stated, must trigger the end of Kim’s regime.
Should be skeptical of any deal with #KJU Limits to future strategic weapons instead of eliminating current program not an acceptable outcome. Hope I’m wrong but still believe they will never give up nukes & ICBM’s unless believe failure to do so triggers regime ending reaction

He further stated that any deal which does not ultimately secure an end to North Korean human rights abuses is not a deal the U.S. should be making.
Any “deal” that doesn’t ultimately bring to an end these atrocities under #KimJongun is not a good deal. https://t.co/jDL3vHDvaD

At the culmination of their summit, Trump and Kim signed an agreement “to work toward complete denuclearization” and “the building of a lasting and robust peace regime on the Korean peninsula.” Trump also stated that he will not end sanctions on North Korea until they completely follow up on their end of the agreement and that he is holding off on an additional 300 sanctions as a display of faith and a token of goodwill.
Some have already criticized the meeting, saying the president offered too many concessions to make the deal happen, including ending joint military exercises near the Korean Peninsula. Rubio said he too is worried about this, but claimed that if Kim violates the terms of the agreement then negotiating further international sanctions will become that much easier.
.@NickKristof I’m uncomfortable with suspending military exercises & if this becomes permanent in exchange for nothing you are 100% correct. However after Trump bent over backwards to be conciliatory, if #KJU does nothing, intl sanctions will be easier to enforce & increase https://t.co/rMplXVkANY

Rubio ended his rant this morning responding to the president calling Kim a “very talented man,” said the dictator is a “total weirdo who would not be elected dog catcher in any democracy.”
One more thing about KJU. While I know @potus is trying to butter him up to get a good deal, #KJU is NOT a talented guy. He inherited the family business from his dad & grandfather. He is a total weirdo who would not be elected assistant dog catcher in any democracy.
