Rudy Giuliani: Trump wants to testify

Rudy Giuliani said Thursday that President Trump wants to testify in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, but reiterated that Mueller can’t subpoena Trump, and said the circumstances of Trump’s voluntary testimony would have to be right.

“The president wants to testify, he wants to give his side of the case, which he believes is the truth,” Giuliani, Trump’s personal lawyer, said on Fox News.

“He keeps saying to me, ‘I never talked to any Russians, I had nothing to do with any Russians, what is this nonsense about Russians.'” Giuliani said.

“And about obstruction of justice, what he says very simply is, ‘I’m just expressing my opinion. I can’t say that Comey is doing a bad job? I’m obstructing justice if I decide the director of the FBI is going a bad job?'” he added.

“So if they had open mind, we would be inclined maybe to let our client do what he wants to do,” Giuliani concluded. He said it “depends on if they’re willing to be reasonable.”

Giuliani said Wednesday night that Mueller’s team has told Trump’s team that Mueller can’t indict a sitting president, and can’t subpoena him. He reiterated that Thursday.

“We’re pretty comfortable in the circumstances of this case, they wouldn’t be able to subpoena him personally,” he said. “All they can do is write a report.”
