Four more boys rescued from flooded cave in Thailand

Four more boys were rescued Monday from a flooded cave in Thailand after being trapped there with their soccer team and coach for more than two weeks.

A witness saw medical personnel carrying a person wrapped in green into an ambulance after rescue efforts resumed Monday, who was the fifth rescued boy after four were saved on Sunday.

“Yes, one has come out already,” a navy official told Reuters. There has not yet been official confirmation that a sixth boy has been rescued.

There more boys, the sixth, seventh and eighth, were saved shortly thereafter.

Cave evacuation efforts have concluded for the day, eye witnesses told CNN. There are still four boys and their coach who remain trapped in the cave following the second day of rescue.

A group of 12 boys, aged 11-16, and their 25-year-old soccer coach became trapped June 23 when a downpour flooded the cave they were exploring after a soccer practice. The group was found nine days after they became trapped.

British divers found the group huddled on a muddy bank last Monday, and the first four boys were brought out on Sunday and were brought to the hospital where they are in good condition. The condition of the four others rescued Monday is still unknown.

Rescue workers began their efforts Sunday and resumed Monday after a few hours to replenish oxygen supplies and make other preparations for the deep dive into the cave in Northern Thailand.

Authorities say the mission could take three to four days to complete.
