Trump: Josh Hawley didn’t leave my rally early

President Trump accused Democrats of circulating a rumor that Josh Hawley, the Republican challenging Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., left a rally the president hosted in the state early.

“There is a rumor, put out by the Democrats, that Josh Hawley of Missouri left the Arena last night early. It is Fake News. He met me at the plane when I arrived, spoke at the great Rally, & stayed to the very end. In fact, I said goodbye to him and left before he did. Deception!” Trump tweeted Tuesday.

It’s not clear what “rumor” the president was referring to. However, Fox News host Brian Kilmeade claimed during Tuesday morning’s broadcast of “Fox and Friends” that Hawley didn’t stay for the duration of Trump’s rally.

The president stumped for Hawley, Missouri’s attorney general, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on Monday night, hosting his final “Make America Great Again” rally of the 2018 election cycle.

In the week before Tuesday’s elections, the president hosted 11 rallies in eight states as he sought to boost Republicans on the ballot.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Trump intends to spend Election Day making telephone calls and monitoring House, Senate and gubernatorial races nationwide. The president also plans to meet with his political team to receive updates.

Sanders said the president and first lady “invited family and friends to join them in the residence as they watch election returns” later tonight.
