Cory Booker endorses Biden

Sen. Cory Booker backed Joe Biden for president, adding another former rival to the 2020 Democratic presidential front-runner’s list of endorsements.

“Joe Biden won’t only win — he’ll show there’s more that unites us than divides us,” Booker said in a tweet early Monday. “He’ll restore honor to the Oval Office and tackle our most pressing challenges.”

The endorsement comes nearly 24 hours after Sen. Kamala Harris said she would support Biden for the Democratic nomination.

The two senators will reportedly appear with Biden at a rally in Detroit on Monday night. Booker will also campaign with Biden in Flint, Michigan, and attend a fundraiser with him.

It’s another strong show of support for Biden on the eve of a major voting day in the presidential primaries. A week ago, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke appeared with Biden in Texas to offer their support ahead of Super Tuesday.

The backing of Booker and Harris, two prominent black candidates to run for president, helps give Biden an extra boost as his rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders, tries to hang on in Michigan, where black voters make up a sizable portion of the electorate.

Booker dropped out of the presidential race in January as he struggled to compete financially and in the polls with top-tier campaigns.
