“We had no connection; it was just a feeling,” Reynolds said. “It’s an underdog story.”

Reynolds and McElhenney purchased the team in 2020.

As for the comparison to the hit Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso, McElhenney told the Hollywood Reporter he has spoken to actor Jason Sudeikis about it.

“Jason called me not about football at all but about working with Apple because Ted Lasso had not even come out yet, and I have a show called Mythic Quest,” he said.

“I mentioned this football endeavor, and then he told me what his show was about, and I was like, ‘Oh man, we’ve got to get our show out before his,’ but I think they beat us by about two years.”
