Comedian and late-night host Jon Stewart poked fun at the ages of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, nicknaming the 2024 presidential election the “indecision 2024 antiques show.”
Stewart’s joke was referencing how many are predicting that Trump, 77, and Biden, 81, will be the presidential nominees for their respective parties. The comedian said that both Biden and Trump are “chronologically outside the norm” of anyone who has ever run for president of the United States, laughing at how the previous record for oldest candidates was set by the same candidates in 2020.
“They are objectively old!” Stewart said in his return to The Daily Show. “They’re at the age, there are no more age-related milestones to hit! They got the AARP card, they’ve got Social Security, they’ve got their movie discounts. There is no ‘Oh, wait till you hit 88, you get to drink and drive.’ No! The only thing left to them is a Today Show Smucker’s shoutout. You know what, I think we got a new name for our election coverage: indecision 2024 antiques roadshow.”
Stewart criticized how many in the Biden administration, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, described the president as “sharp” and “on top of it all.” Stewart argued that the administration ought to be showing footage of Biden being “sharp and full of energy,” rather than having Biden film TikTok videos of him answering Super Bowl-related questions.
In regards to Trump, Stewart reacted to Arizona 2024 Senate candidate Kari Lake denying that Trump is “an old man,” to which the late-night host said that he is objectively old and joked that he would tell Trump to “enjoy college” if he was a tortoise. Stewart added that calling out Trump’s old age is not ageist, but “human lifespanist.”
The comedian also reflected on how both candidates face major challenges in winning the 2024 presidential election, such as the numerous indictments and legal battles Trump is facing. He also joked that while Biden has not been indicted as many times as Trump, the Democratic Party should want a candidate like “Conan the Barbarian,” not a president talking about “chocolate chip cookies” on TikTok.

When discussing why he returned to the show, Stewart said he wanted a place where he could “unload” his thoughts on the 2024 election season.
