Ginkgo trees might be beautiful, but the District Department of Transportation wants to ensure they don’t reek.

The city began coating the trees throughout the District on Thursday night with a spray to contain the odor of the female gingko fruits.

City workers are spraying trees in Wards 1, 2 and 6 first because the trees are most prevalent in those three areas of Washington. Other wards will have their trees sprayed over the next few nights.

DDOT said there is no need for residents to move vehicles parked on streets.
