Caps 0, Oilers 0
Kind of an ugly first period with a ton of whistles early on and no flow. That changed a little over the final eight minutes. Each team manged some pretty decent scoring chances by the end. Oilers goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers stopped Alex Semin on a break and later survived chances in front by Brendan Morrison and then Tomas Fleischmann. He had to make 16 saves to get Edmonton into the dressing room unscathed. Caps rookie Michal Neuvirth, meanwhile, was sound positionally and stopped all eight Edmonton shots. But Washington gave up a few too many odd-man rushes. Both goalies did their job. But this doesn’t exactly have the feel of a 2-1 game. Pretty soon I have to believe some of these chances are going in. Caps held possession on their lone power play, but didn’t score. That’s 0-for-5 over their last four periods.
