Burns, 40, also formerly owned the Waldron Street Market in downtown Corinth. A native of Alcorn County, she holds a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Mississippi.
“Corinth is a special place. I want to see it keep growing,” she said.
The tourism office has been without a director since Kristy White resigned in January. Anne Thompson has been serving as interim director.
Burns has a background in budgeting and cross-department project management from her work at Mississippi Polymers and the Waldron Street Market.
She said she will rely increasingly on social media marketing to draw tourists and reach local residents.
“We can do a lot through social media . people who are looking for things to do today are going to websites to see what is happening,” said Burns. “Education is also important to let others see what is going on in their town.”
