Bug River, winner of the 2004 Maryland Hunt Cup, once again navigated the demanding 4-mile course over 22 obstacles to a spectacular finish.

Owned by Northwoods Stable and ridden by Chris Gracie, Bug River sailed across the finish line with Rosbrian Farm?s Rosbrian, ridden by Charlie Fenwick III, placing second.

Of nine original entries, two scratched and only two finished in 9:14:3/5.

Zaratanie, Sky and Sea, Make Your Own, Sham Aciss and Ivorgorian all dropped out of the action.

One of the sporting world?s most thrilling and dangerous events, the Maryland Hunt Cup, first run in 1894, requires stout hearts in horses and riders alike.

The course, longer than most, demands endurance as well as fearless jumping skills to sail over nailed fences as high as 5 feet.

The Hunt Cup has been run at the same location in the Worthington Valley in Glyndon since 1922.

This year?s race was an example of what the sport is all about, complete with a riveting finish.
