RIALTO, Calif. (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency says it has reached a settlement worth at least $21.5 million with the Goodrich Corp. that will require it to investigate and clean up a Southern California industrial site where chemicals contaminated the water supply

An EPA news release said Tuesday that the settlement ends nine years of litigation over the B.F. Goodrich Superfund Site in Rialto. The site was used for decades by defense contractors and fireworks manufacturers.

Under the settlement, Goodrich will install new wells for testing groundwater then build and operate cleanup facilities until the process is finished, which could take decades.

The statement says Goodrich will pay at least the first $21.5 million toward the cleanup, with contributions also coming from the Defense Department and companies that were part of previous settlements.
