Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn hopped on Twitter Sunday afternoon to tweet support for Republican nominee Donald Trump. But in trying to help out a friend, the former Army general retweeted an anti-Semitic message, hurting Trump more than helping him.
It started Sunday morning when Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager Robby Mook said Russia may have hacked the Democratic National Committee’s email server in a move to help Trump.
Flynn rushed to Trump’s defense.
“The corrupt Democratic machine will do and say anything to get #NeverHillary into power. This is a new low,” Flynn tweeted. He also shared a link to a tweet from Saint Bibiana (@30PiecesofAG_) who wrote “>Cnn implicated. ‘The USSR is to blame!’ … Not anymore, Jews. Not anymore.”
All, this is what was meant to be retweeted…the earlier retweet was a mistake. My sincerest apologies. https://t.co/0s1OqEC3gr

Flynn later apologized for and deleted the retweet after Twitter users brought it to his attention. He said he thought he had retweeted CNN, but instead had shared a post from someone who had responded to the TV network’s post below the original.
Trump has painted himself as a close ally to Israel, putting Flynn’s apparently accidental retweet even more at odds with the campaign.
