Uncompromising luxury at Columbia condos

When Jeanne Kozlowski gets a yearning to see kids, she has six grandchildren she can visit. The rest of the time, she’s perfectly happy at Ovation, the 55 and “better” condominium building in Columbia she moved into in January.

“It’s a lot of fun,” she said of her new Howard County community. “I wanted to downsize from the big four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home where you raise your kids.”

The well-designed floor plan includes plenty of space in the living room for the whole family to gather, Kozlowski said. That’s in keeping with the thoughtful touches throughout the community, like the baby pool next to the grown-up pool.

The condos themselves include many features that come standard. The two- and three-bedroom units have two bathrooms and fireplaces, and start at 1,600-square-feet. They all are one floor, and come with granite countertops in the kitchen and a gas fireplace in the family room with a plasma TV mounted above.

Parking is provided in a garage under the building; each unit comes with one assigned space. It’s also a secure building, providing additional piece of mind to residents.

“People don’t feel like they’re compromising when they come here,” said Wayne Bob, sales counselor for the builder, Ryland Homes. “You have hundreds of hours of free time because you don’t have to worry about anything.”

Margaret Crossin moved to the community from a single-family home in Linthicum because she was looking for a more active social life. She found it in Ovation. She loves the water aerobics and yoga classes she takes, and delights in pot-luck diners, movie night, playing bridge and book club in the community’s clubhouse.

“There’s nothing like walking out your front door into the hall to get your mail and meeting a dozen friends,” she said.

Located off Route 175 in Columbia, about three minutes from I-95, Ovation is convenient to just about everything anyone could want.

“If you’re looking for shopping or dining, if you can’t find it in a five-minute radius, it doesn’t exist or you don’t need it,” Bob said.

There is one exception: Kozlowski’s grandchildren, who don’t live in the area—not that that’s a problem.

“My grandchildren like coming here more than they did to my old house,” she said.
