“This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visited the University of Virginia,” Ryan wrote. “This is a traumatic incident for everyone in our community and we have cancelled classes for today (Monday, Nov. 14.)”

The identity of the victims and the motive for the shooting have not been released.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the Culbreth Garage on the Central Grounds of UVA, and a shelter-in-place order was issued shortly after, according to the Daily Progress.

Jones is described as a 5-foot-8 black male and was last seen wearing a burgundy jacket or hoodie, blue jeans, and red shoes, according to the UVA Police Department. He may be driving a black SUV with a Virginia tag and should be considered armed and dangerous.
