Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., is seeking permission to perforom a civil marriage ceremoney in June for a nephew, the Virginian-Pilot reports.

Circuit judges can grant one-time authority for nonclergy who live in the jurisdiction, aren’t felons, and post a a $500 bond, the Pilot reported.

Performing a wedding without a license or permission from the court could land a person in jail for up to a year and a fine of up to $500.
