Washington Post reporter pushes back on misleading reports of border wall being knocked over by wind

Twitter users castigated President Trump after reports that part of the southern border wall was knocked over due to high winds.

“I get the urge to dunk on the border wall, but this is misleading. The panels that fell over in the wind were not anchored yet. You can clearly see that in the photo. And adjacent sections did NOT fall, likely because the concrete base had time to harden,” Washington Post reporter Nick Miroff said on Twitter Thursday.

“Trump’s signature border wall fell over in Mexico from high winds a day after he boasted about the strength of his barrier,” HuffPost’s Twitter account said.

An NBC News headline read, “Portions of California border wall wilt and fall into Mexico after high winds.” An AJ+ headline read, “Part of President Trump’s proposed border wall fell over because of high winds.”

Many celebrities and online personalities spread the story as well.

“This is not an Onion headline,” actress Alyssa Milano tweeted. “Trump border wall between US and Mexico blows over in high winds.”

Border Patrol agent Carlos Pitones told reporters that the wall blew over because the wall was not finished yet, and the concrete the wall was set in was not yet dry.

“When there are issues, flaws, problems etc with the border wall and its construction, we will continue to cover them. This incident was not one of those.” Miroff added on Twitter.
