Trump: ‘It’s time for a different type of campaign’

Donald Trump appears to be taking concerns about his lackluster campaign operation seriously, conceding Monday night that it is time to for him to adopt a “different” strategy for the general election.

“I think it’s time now for a different type of campaign,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly.

“We ran a small, beautiful, different kind of campaign in the primaries [and] I think I’m going to do probably some of that,” Trump added, noting that he spent significantly less money to defeat 17 Republican rivals in comparison to Hillary Clinton, whose Democratic opponent has yet to end his White House bid.

“As I’ve said, I have 73 people [on staff]. Hillary Clinton has some 500 people and you know, we’re in the same position,” he claimed.

Trump’s decision to heed the advice of Republican party leaders, who have urged him for weeks to develop a more traditional campaign both in terms of his rhetoric and ground game, was on full display Monday morning when it was revealed he had fired his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski.

“I think Corey’s terrific,” Trump said of Lewandowski. “I’m really proud of him. He’s a great guy, but you know, we’re going to go a little bit of a different route from this point forward.”
