Caps 6, Maple Leafs 1
“Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that got out of hand fast.”
I’m going with the classic quote from the movie Anchorman to describe that period. The Caps did whatever they wanted. Not even a goalie change could save the Leafs. Alex Semin scored twice and probably could have had another. Brendan Morrison also scored his first goal as a Cap with a sweet backhand on a breakaway. Toronto coach Ron Wilson might need to go back to the drawing board the next time these two teams play. The Caps are bombing passes up ice and keep slipping behind the Maple Leafs defense.
Only two penalties on each team at this point. Toronto has just one shot on two power plays as the Washington PK remains perfect on the year. G Semyon Varlamov has 24 saves on 25 shots and has looked strong so far. Not much left to say about this one. The fans already have their free Glory Days wings coupons thanks to the Caps hitting the five-goal mark halfway through the game. Expect to see plenty of the third and fourth lines in the third period.
