The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments has issued a Code Red forecast for the Washington region Tuesday, meaning the air quality is expected to be “unhealthy” in and around the city where temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s.
This is the second Code Red this month, and the third so far this year.
Temperatures are expected to stay in the mid-90s again Wednesday, but a Code Red is not yet forecast for a second straight day.
Those in the area are advised to stay in doors whenever possible, turn off lights and electronics when not in use, and try to use public transportation when traveling.
