KID TREATS REVAMPED
On a hot Washington day, cucumber mint vodka and strawberry tequila sound like refreshing reprieves. But if it is in the form of a sorbet push pop, that makes it all the better! Local artisinal gelato shop Dolcezza is debuting a series of the cold treats, crafted with the freshest seasonal ingredients, that reminds us of our favorite summer days as a child.
A rotating list of push pops will be available — three gelatos and three sorbets — changing on a bi-weekly basis. For gelato-lovers, the temptations include Valhrona chocolate amargo, salted caramel and roasted strawberry. And for dairy-free alternatives, don’t miss the sorbets listed above, plus other refreshers such as pineapple mint.
Priced at $3 each, Dolcezza’s push pops are available exclusively at the newly opened Mosaic District location (2905 District Ave., Fairfax), as well as Thursdays at the Penn Quarter FRESHFARM Market and Sundays at the Dupont Circle FRESHFARM Market and the Bloomingdale farmer’s market.
SEASONAL TASTES
Coming soon to a Pitango Gelato near you is delicious rhubarb sorbet. A bright, flavorful treat made with the spring’s freshly picked rhubarb crop is just one of the many summer tastes arriving on the menu. Other delectable sorbet treats include mango, made with the organic Ataulfo variety; strawberry and raspberry; and a perennial favorite, mojito, a refreshing combination of fresh-squeezed lime juice and fresh mint. Made with spring water and unrefined cane sugar, all sorbets at Pitango are dairy and fat free, making them an ideal indulgence for lactose-intolerant and vegan guests.
In addition to the classic Italian flavors, this summer Pitango is also introducing black sesame gelato, a smooth nutty flavor made with roasted sesame seeds, as well as walnut gelato, made with premium organic nuts imported from Italy.
