‘Shadowrun’

It’s a distant alternate-reality future where magic is blah-blah-blah. No story, no need for pretense.

“Shadowrun” is fun, no doubt about it. Compared with the current beta for “Halo 3,” it’s got stronger and more interesting gameplay.

It’s your typical FPS,with the twist of four playable races and a selection of spells and tech powers varying from a resurrection spell to x-ray vision.

What it doesn’t have: Single player.

The RPGs this title is based on would lend themselves to a great campaign mode with skill development, and a compelling story. To try and push a multiplayer-only game without so much as vehicles seems like a poor decision.

Sure, there’s offline training, and you can play matches with bots (With amazing A.I. given the complexity of the system), but who wants to do that?

With only three game modes — capture the artifact, defend the artifact and team deathmatch … with an artifact — nine maps and no apparent tracking of skills, rank, etc., it’s doubtful this title will hold the attention of gamers through the summer.
