Rand Paul mocks Paul Ryan’s ‘my way or the highway’ approach

Sen. Rand Paul mocked Paul Ryan Sunday for adopting what he argued was a “my way or the highway” approach to healthcare legislation, performing an impression of the House Speaker as a stern father figure.

“You know what I hear from Paul Ryan? ‘It’s a binary choice, young man,'” Paul said on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” mimicking Ryan as a forbidding character.

“But what does a binary choice mean? His way or the highway,” the Kentucky Republican said.

Paul, who has criticized Ryan’s replacement plan as “Obamacare lite,” faulted Ryan for not considering amendments or alternatives to the proposal. President Trump, he said, has been more willing to consider changes.

A take-it-or-leave-it approach, Paul argued, won’t lead to legislative success. “Right now, I think there’s a charm offensive going on … because they want us to vote for this,” he said of Republican leadership. “But we’re not going to vote for it.”
