Vice President Mike Pence on Monday said that President Trump won the first presidential debate, “hands down.”
Pence delivered his remarks to an enthusiastic crowd at the Freedom and Faith Coalition conference in Iowa.
Pence recalled how he previously told Fox News host Bret Baier that Trump would outtalk former Vice President Joe Biden.
“He said, ‘What’s going to happen?'” Pence said. “And I said that President Trump is going to take our case to the American people. And he’s going to take the fight to Joe Biden. President Donald Trump knows how to fight for what we believe in, and he won that debate, hands down.”
The debate, which was the first time Trump and Biden met on stage, prompted criticism of both candidates for the styles and substances of their arguments. The two are set to debate again Oct. 15.
Pence is scheduled to debate next week against Biden’s running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris.
