LAS VEGAS — Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren signaled disagreement with presidential primary rival Kamala Harris, saying that she didn’t believe President Trump should be banned from Twitter over some of his more controversial rants.
“No,” Warren told the Washington Examiner with a laugh Wednesday afternoon before speaking with other reporters on gun control, following her appearance at the 2020 Gun Safety Forum co-hosted by March for Our Lives.
Harris wrote a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on Tuesday that called for Trump to be suspended from Twitter.
“I believe the President’s recent tweets rise to the level that Twitter should consider suspending his account,” Harris said.
She cited Trump tweets about the whistleblower who alleged that the president abused his power in asking the president of Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.
“Was this person SPYING on the U.S. President? Big Consequences!” Trump said in one tweet. In another tweet, Trump said he wanted California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, chair of the House Intelligence Committee, questioned for possible fraud and treason.
“Others have had their accounts suspended for less offensive behavior. And when this kind of abuse is being spewed from the most powerful office in the United States, the stakes are too high to do nothing,” Harris wrote.
While Warren does not agree that Trump should be kicked off Twitter, she has a different rift with a major tech company. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that his company would likely sue the government if Warren, who wants to break up big companies, wins the presidency.
