Tree dragging destroys mailboxes, fences

Northern Baltimore County has its problems, but perhaps none is as odd as the mysterious nighttime ride of a tree that destroyed property along a four-mile stretch of White Hall.

On June 14, between 4 and 4:30 a.m., someone hitched a tree to the rear of a vehicle, likely a pickup truck, and dragged the wooded plant along a route including five different roads, police said.

The tree?s tumultuous trip began at the 17300 block of York Road.

From there it was dragged on Wiseburg Road to Bernoudy Road to Hunter Mill Road, until it was dumped in a field at the side of Kings Road.

“Along this route, numerous mailboxes, as well as some roadside fencing, were destroyed and/or damaged by the limbs of the tree as it was dragged down the roadway,” Baltimore County Police Cpt. Martin Lurz of the Cockeysville precinct wrote in an e-mail to residents. “At least one resident heard what was believed to be the sound of a diesel engine-equipped vehicle being driven through this route during the time span.”

The Cockeysville precinct?s Investigative Services Team is probing the incident and asking anyone with information to call 410-887-1823.
