Huckabee: This shows Trump is ready to be president

Donald Trump’s decision to fire campaign manager Corey Lewandowski shows the presumed Republican presidential candidate is ready to be commander in chief, according to Mike Huckabee.

The former Arkansas governor praised Lewandowski as being “classy” in the way he took the firing Monday. Huckabee also praised Trump for deciding to enter the general election with a new campaign manager, and called the move “refreshing.”

“Donald Trump thought that there needed to be new leadership. He made the change. You know what I would like to see? A president who would fire somebody when it was time to fire them,” Huckabee said.

“I would like to see a president who would fire somebody at the VA, who would fire somebody at the IRS, who would fire people at the DOJ for invading people’s private phone calls,” he added. “Instead, we’ve had an administration for eight years that won’t fire anybody. This would be kind of refreshing to see an executive who acted like one.”

Huckabee also offered his insight into Trump’s campaign makeup, for example, having a team of 70 as opposed to several hundred, like presumed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

“You look at Hillary’s campaign, it’s bloated. What are they getting done?” Huckabee said. He did say that Trump needs to “staff up,” especially when it comes to the fundraising arena, but he said Trump knows that and will do so.

Huckabee endorsed Trump in May, calling for the GOP to unify behind him. Huckabee ran for president in both the 2008 and 2016 elections.
