Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. consumers have until May 31 to choose another electric provider.
BGE will send out letters to its customers explaining how the opt-in/opt-out plan works and the impending May 31 deadline.
BGE said it willtake eight to 10 business days to get the letters out following the release of the PSC?s report on May 11. That would likely give consumers about two to five days to select a new electric provider.
As it stands, on June 1, customers who do not participate in the phased-in rate stabilization program will go to market rates and the full 50 percent rate hike.
If consumers sign up for the RSP, they will experience a 25 percent rate hike on June 1 and the remaining 25 percent hike on Jan. 1, 2008, with no interest for the deferral to full market prices being charged.
