EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Some lanes of a border bridge linking West Texas and Mexico will be closed for high-tech upgrades.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in El Paso say improvements to the southbound lanes of the Bridge of the Americas are set to begin Monday.

The work includes lane excavation and construction to support installation of speed humps and technology improvements, such as automated license plate readers.

Officials say the work will be done when traffic is the lightest, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. MDT Monday through Friday. Freshly poured concrete will need time to cure so travelers can expect some lane closures.

Southbound pedestrian traffic won’t be affected.
