The Arlington County Board on Saturday gave scholarships to attend Northern Virginia Community College to seven students interested in pursuing careers in public service.
The Mary Marshall Scholarship, valued at $2,000 to $2,500, is named after a former Arlington delegate to the Virginia General Assembly.
The scholarships, which are given by the Arlington Commission on the Status of Women, are awarded annually.
“Supporting the continuing education of our children is integral to the betterment of the Arlington community,” said Bruchilica Jones, chairman of the scholarship program. “I’m extremely proud of the scholarship recipients. They are all truly worthy of the award.”
This year’s winners are:
» Aleyda Baldelomar, who plans to study psychology.
» Ngoc Minh Le, who is studying mathematics and science.
» Sayuri Marisol Bonilla, who plans to study to be a nurse.
» Maria Reyes, who is working toward a career in public service.
» Karina T. Serrano, who is studying psychology.
» Fernanda Tapia, who plans to become an elementary school teacher.
» Emili Velis, who wants to study veterinary medicine.
