Back-to-school blunder
Stealing from a children’s charity auction is low. Stealing from a roomful of cops is stupid.
That’s what Portland, Ore., police said two men did. While 60 officers participated in the Shop with a Cop event to help children shop for back to school, Shane Alexander, 20, and Jason Vantress, 30, allegedly took shoes, clothes, tools and blenders.
The off-duty cops said they caught the men stealing and turned them over to store security.
Driving while inappropriate
An Ohio police officer who stopped a car for having illegally tinted windows received a bit of a shock when the driver rolled down the w
indow.
Officer Ross Gilbert said he saw the driver, Colondra Hamilton, sitting with her pants unzipped and a sex toy in her lap.
Hamilton, 36, admitted that she was driving while watching porn on a laptop computer.
She was charged with “driving with inappropriate alertness” and having illegally tinted windows.
Faith-based bathroom break
A Miami (Ohio) University student confessed after he was caught in an alley urinating on holy ground.
When officers asked 19-year-old Jacob Pleban whether he realized he was whizzing on the Methodist church, Pleban replied, “I’m Catholic.”
Pleban was charged with public urination, disorderly conduct and underage intoxication.
He left the dough in the oven
Police in Mississippi were more than happy to help a man find his missing money.
Police said Denonta D. Thadison, 28, called 911 to report the theft of $10,000 from his hotel.
Officers found $9,370 cash stashed in the room’s microwave oven — along with more than two pounds of crack and powdered cocaine.
Thadison, who was out on bond from a prior drug charge, was sent to jail without bond.
Oh, boy
A 10-year-old boy upset because he wasn’t allowed to have a new BB gun threw his bike at a squad car outside a Kmart store, the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reported.
Police in Minnesota were called to the store on a report of a juvenile who had hit an employee and was pounding on the store’s door and screaming. Police said officers were “really familiar” with the boy from past encounters.
An officer spotted the boy riding away on his bike. The boy got off his bike and threw it on top of the squad car, breaking the windshield and denting the hood.
Criminal charges were unlikely because of the boy’s age, police said. – Compiled by Scott McCabe
