Britney Spears’s father requested an immediate end to the pop star’s conservatorship after 13 years.
In court documents filed on Monday, Jamie Spears’s lawyer stated that “Britney’s recent testimony and requests to take personal control of her estate and affairs have made clear that continuing the conservatorship is contrary to her desires.”
The statement continued, “Jamie sees no reason why the conservatorship should continue for any amount of time and asserts he has no interest in the conservatorship continuing.”

The filing, submitted by Jamie Spears’s lawyer, stated his request was unconditional, not subject to “a demand for releases or compensation,” and had “nothing to hide regarding his administration of Britney’s estate.”
Britney Spears, 39, was put under a conservatorship in 2008 after a public meltdown, including shaving her head. In recent years, she has pushed for an end to the arrangement.
In June, the singer testified to a Los Angeles Court, alleging she had been held against her will in a psychiatric institution and denied agency over several aspects of her life.
Since that testimony, Britney Spears was allowed to acquire her own legal representation and has actively worked with her lawyer to end the conservatorship.
Jamie Spears initially opposed the motion, claiming there were “no grounds whatsoever” to remove him.
In September, a judge ruled that Jamie Spears’s arrangement with his daughter “reflects a toxic environment” and that he should be suspended from overseeing it. The pop singer said she was “very happy” with the court’s ruling and believed the end was near.
