Trump ‘will be pleased’ with Cruz’s RNC speech

Jeff Roe, who served as Sen. Ted Cruz’s campaign manager during the primary contest, predicted Wednesday that Donald Trump and his campaign “will be pleased” with Cruz’s address before the Republican National Committee on Wednesday night.

During a gaggle with reporters prior to Cruz’s “Thank You Delegates” event, Roe said that Cruz will deliver a “forward” and “optimistic” speech on Wednesday. But he added that he isn’t sure whether the latest draft of the speech contains the words “Donald Trump” in it.

“It’s a great opportunity and a huge opportunity for him, and a very nice gesture from the Trump campaign to do so,” Roe said before being asked if Cruz will mention Trump’s name during the speech.

“That’s a good question,” Roe responded. “I don’t know if the last draft has that or not. But there’s certainly a, um — I think they’ll be pleased with the speech… I don’t know that it doesn’t say his name. I think it’s in there. I don’t recall how we say it, but he’s going to be pleased with the speech.”

The former campaign chief and Cruz strategist added that the speech will speak to both those who supported his campaign, as well as those who did not. He said Cruz isn’t “really that kind of guy” who tries to tell voters what to do.

Roe also declined to say whether Cruz will endorse him Wednesday night.
